First off (and I wouldn’t normally complain about something so trivial but while I’m at it I may as well include this incident) I ordered a bottle of wine from the waitress, I specifically said “please can I have a bottle“, she asked if I’d like 2 glasses, and then appeared with 2 glasses of wine and no bottle. I apologised (heaven only knows why as it wasn't my error) & explained I'd wanted a bottle (as ordered) and the waitress sighed in irritation at me and rolled her eyes.

Having gone back home to enjoy Liverpools victory over Chelsea in the Champions league semi final, myself and Mrs La decided to nurse the hangover from the night before with a refreshing Tapas meal, before the long drive back to our residence in Kent. Nestled amongst the impressively re-developed Queens Square, alongside a Nando's, Bar Med and Marriott hotel, lies La Tasca. Dubbed an authentic Spanish Tapas Bar & Restaurant, it has a pleasant terrace to sit outside.

God help us, Burnley on a wet Saturday afternoon when the crowds are coming out of the football ground after having lost the match is a grim place to be looking for a suitable place for a cuppa (good sentence eh?) But tucked away is a little gem of a cafe if you fancy a really good North African coffeee and some Egyptian sweetmeats. I just had tea and it was boiling hot, mahogany brown and generally very good.

Champions league final.............another trip back home to Liverpool. I must confess that searching for a good eatery in my home city is quite a struggle. Far harder than my adopted town of Tunbridge Wells. We are more than spoilt for choice down here, I can tell you. A la the last visit for the Semi final against Chelsea, we opted for a 'pick me up' in the trendy Queens Sqare, opting for the highly recommended (by the Liverpool Echo) Tavern & Co. The place was bustling on a Saturday afternoon, sun out, revelers spilling onto the decked chairs outside. Inside was reasonably quiet so we chose to sit in the cooler indoors. A 'snazzy' menu was thrust upon us by the attentive staff, along with a wine list which was not just reasonable to the patrons wallet, but was also pretty darn good to boot. A fantastic array of imported mexican beers was also on offer. Although not quite as good as the our excellent Zapata, on the Pantiles, the presentation was excellent and the cost very reasonable. Chimichangas, fajitas, enchiladas...... its all on offer. They also offer an excellent breakfast menu up until 2pm. We left more than satisfied £35 later. This after starters, beers, glass of wine and main course. They also have an eatery on the famously sang Penny Lane. Well worth a visit if you're up that neck of the woods.
