The Fig Tree, 99b, Church St, Malvern, Worcestershire WR14 2AE

A lot of time and effort has gone into restoring this one-time stable block into a modern restaurant. Decor is plain and simple, with stark white walls and bright lighting (not cosy or romantic).

The Park Gate Inn,178, Kidderminster Rd, Dodford, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire,B61 9AJ

My wife and son and I visited the Park Gate early doors on a Saturday. There was a large party of 15 eating in the newly built extension, we noticed. The new layout and decor was delightful.

The food was simply delicious, the best meal out I've had in months. I had the grilled sea bass, with sauteed potatoes, which tasted fantastic, and the creamed leeks/creamed spring onions (I couldn't work out which) set it off perfectly. If you like seafood - visiting here is a must. There must have been 10 fresh fish dishes on the menu, ranging from sea bass, to barramundi, and crab. Non-fish included the usual steak fare, coq-au-vin, a number of vegetarian options. The place is very well decorated with a very rustic feel.

The Northwick Hotel, Waterside, Evesham, Worcestershire, WR11 1BT

Waterside, Evesham, Worcestershire, WR11 1BT

The Northwick is a bland plastic palace corporate hotel, part of the Best Western chain. It is like an 'executive show home' on one of those 'luxury' estates, expanded to hotel proportions; everything 'comfortable' and safe without the smallest touch of individuality - except for a courtyard with a fountain in it which is very pleasant to sit in. Nothing wrong with that - an average, functional, businesslike hotel. With one difference. The food is not average and functional. It is very good.

Mediterranean Restaurant, Turks Head, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire

Mediterranean Restaurant, Turks Head, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire

147 Worcester Road, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire

The back room of a modest pub on the Worcester road has becone for the last 3 months or so a rather fine Mediterranean restaurant. Very clean , with attentive service. I selected a Mediterranean Salad (feta cheese, cherry tomatoes etc) in a spicy dressing, my wife had very creamy garlic mushrooms. I had Monkfish for main, beatifully cooked and presented, with seasonal vegetables. My wife had esacalope of chicken topped with cheese. The menu is brief, and not overly Mediterranean, several steak dishes, no Pasta, but certainly worth return visit. Not cheap - with one bottle of Chilean white wine £42 - but faultless really. Highly recommended.

Perdiswell House, Droitwich Road, Worcester

Droitwich Road, Worcester

Perdiswell House is a Big Steak pub on the main road which is proud about the fact that it serves food all day and is groovy about having children around. That's just about where it stops as I have to say that this is quite simply the worst place I have ever eaten in. Hilarious starters of pate that had a coat of greasy grey film on it, "indian" starter of tiny poppadums with little pakoras and bhajis obviously straight out of a packet and a cod main dish that was so hard it was like eating ridged cardboard packaging made up the sorry tableau.

Sheiks, The Coach House, The Green, Broadway Worcestershire WR12 7AA

The Coach House, The Green, Broadway Worcestershire WR12 7AA

In a sleepy Cotswolds town, almost the last thing you'd expect is a buzzy little Indian brasserie. Tourists bored with their "avocado pear" or "rib-eye steak" at the gorgeously twee clutch of Cotswold hotels, could do worse than spend some time tucked away here. All of the usuals are here, but this time served with an authentic pungency, and hot and fresh to order. Parathas in particular were flaky and rich, ready to mop up the sizzling juices from our curries.

The Queens Head, Sugarbrook Lane, Stoke Pound, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, B60 3AU

Sugarbrook Lane, Stoke Pound, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, B60 3AU

This pub/restaurant, situated next to the canal, was an ideal setting for a family birthday meal. The carvery (at £4.50) was a bargain. A choice of beef, pork and turkey and over 10 different types of vegetables ensured that everyone was well fed. The restaurant would almost certainly need to be booked in advance and is probably too crowded for anyone wanting a quiet meal but otherwise excellent value.
